Florida State’s close call against Oklahoma State Saturday was viewed differently by the voters in the top 25 Associated Press and coaches polls.

The Seminoles, who escaped with a 37-31 victory in the season opener after entering the game close to a three TD favorite, maintained its No. 1 ranking in both polls.

But while FSU increased its margin over No. 2 Alabama, it lost 11 first place votes in the AP poll and gained one first place vote by the coaches.

Florida State received 46 first place votes in the AP poll. It had 57 in the preseason. Alabama had one first place vote and No. 3 Oregon received five. No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 6 Georgia and No. 9 Texas A&M had two each. No. 12 LSU had one. No. 5 Auburn did not receive a first place vote.

The Seminoles have 1,456 points this week, down from 1,496 in the preseason poll.

In the coaches poll, FSU is followed by Alabama,  Oklahoma Oregon and Auburn. The Seminoles had 57 first place votes, one more than it had in the preseason poll.  Oklahoma and Oregon each had two first place votes and No. 8 Georgia received one.

Oklahoma State benefitted from its closer than expected loss to the Seminoles, jumping four spots in the coaches poll under others receiving votes up to No. 26.

Greene, Edwards grab honors

Rashad Greene was named the ACC’s receiver of the week and Mario Edwards was the defensive lineman of the week.

Greene had 11 catches for 203 yards and a game-sealing 50 yard touchdown. Edward was credited with four tackles, including one sack for a minus-14 yards, one pass breakup and one pass defended.
